spiritual beliefs and other small thoughts
Was thinking again about the song Same Smile, Different Face and this idea of like meeting in every lifetime ... I was thinking that the sprites probably believe in some kind of reincarnation. But it's less literal than I guess I usually see it. It's more of like a "from dust you came and to dust you shall return" type thing except... Also not biblical... Lol...
No it's all kind of. I think very much wrapped up in Nature, the cycle of life and the interconnectedness of all living things, in a way.
It reminds me of this other, one of the other most beautiful songs I know, High On A Rocky Ledge by Moondog, not directly but... The story is basically how this guy sacrifices his life to be with the one he loves who is symbolised as an edelweiss flower in this song. I guess I mean it's open to interpretation. But what I'm taking from it is like... I can see them passing down songs, stories, about for example, two flowers growing next to one another being two sprites that were destined to meet in every lifetime. That sounds sickeningly romantic but they're NOT a romantic species at all, as in, they're generally completely aromantic lol. I think it's actually mainly about parent/child bonds because like I've spoken about, there's this thing of, the child will leave to find their own territory and will likely never see their parent(s) again and it's like... Well it's okay because we'll see each other in the next life. Or you'll see me when you watch a little mouse scurrying about in the woods gathering food, you'll see me when the tree beside your house sprouts new leaves every spring and bears fruit every summer. I'm everywhere if you are looking.
I liked how Sam was saying the imps believe there is a kind of hell or Valhalla kind of thing that they all return to and get to be together again and I like to think that both of these beliefs came from the same origin seeing as they have common ancestors. But at some point I guess they diverge but there's still this sense of meeting again one day...
Something else just occurred to me...
I remembered studying biomimetics at university and, it also always has just been something I've noticed -- how veins on leaves imitate veins in animals, basically how everything is trees forever, everything is branching outwards from something larger than it. Bronchioles < bronchi < lungs. You know. The Wood Wide Web!!!! Everything is connected. Literally. I think this is the basis of a lot of what the sprites believe. Again if you're looking you'll notice the same patterns everywhere. If you put your feet on the ground and I have my feet on the ground then we are touching. Worlds away from each other. Ok this is too much for me lmao
