yet more yarrow origin stuff
Ok so I had an idea... Say there's some big, huge, ancient tree in this forest. It's been there for maybe thousands of years. Every few hundred years or so it bears a fruit. Inside the fruit is a new forest spirit. Every time one dies, around the same time, another one will be born. This is the life cycle of the forest spirit. It is born with the inherent knowledge that its purpose is to protect the forest, and the Tree. They're born as a small humanoid, like a toddler in stature, only smaller. Just barely able to teach themselves how to walk. As they grow, they find enough natural resources to fashion themselves some clothes. When Yarrow grows into a small child, he ventures into the nearby town and some kind parent finds him and gives him some of their children's old clothes. They offer him shelter but he knows he has to return to the forest. He sleeps under the shelter of the great tree until he eventually builds a house out of stone.
Or -- the house he lives in was previously owned by the last forest spirit. They left behind all the clothes they made, all their equipment and furniture, which Yarrow doesn't yet know what to do with, but at least has somewhere to sleep.
It's tomorrow... thinking about this some more. I still like the idea of him being born from a seed from an ancient tree, kinda thing. It's giving Asexual Reproduction. B) So anyways... I was thinking some more about, well, it makes sense that he didn't build the house himself. I like the idea that the house is suuuuper duper old like, idk, what do really old houses look like. Cuz this is already a vaguely medieval setting. I think the wonky little stone house still makes sense. It would have maybe been made by the last uhh. Forest spirit.
So following this -- it also makes sense he would've worn some of those clothes left behind by the previous inhabitant of the house. I think he develops his own taste though and starts learning how to make his own clothes, dyes some of the passed down ones black. It's interesting... I think each one inherently understands what their job is, but also, leaves some stuff behind for the next one to piece things together.
There are a couple other things I was thinking about:
If the tree dies or gets chopped down, naturally, it will be the end of their... bloodline? Family tree? Neither of these things I guess technically lol.
They probably live for a few hundred years. Maybe a thousand.
The fruit they're born from probably has similar colours -- black outer skin with a slightly pink-ish grey colour flesh inside. I'm imagining something like an avocado lol but where the pit is, a Little Guy would be curled up in the fetal position. I guess the flesh of the fruit would be their first source of sustenance.
They'd grow into their full size really quick like, within a few months maybe.
Back again!
Basically the idea is like... There's an ancient tree or plant that bears one fruit every so many hundred years and a new like "forest spirit", sprite, dryad, whatever, is born from inside the fruit ... i guess like an egg lol. I was actually just right this second thinking about pineapple plants cuz. It produces exactly one pineapple and then dies. And then you can plant the top part of that pineapple and it will eventually produce another pineapple from That plant. And so on... so it's like... What if when one is nearing the end of their life they will just like. Bury themselves in the ground and a new plant grows from them. I was wondering how similar each generation would be to the last and I think they'd be like. Kinda very but also distinctly different. Have their own personalities, styles. But perhaps very similar facial features, stature etc. ... Ok that's enough for now lol
